Notes   Each day begins at 8:30 and ends at or about 5:30
The second Saturday ends at 1:00
There are breaks at 10:30 and 3:30
Lunch is from 12:30 to 1:30

Training Outline

Day One
Morning   Registration 8:00
    Introduction and explanation of the course ahead, including a brief review of the written materials
    Overview of mediation: steps and skills, mediation structure
    Introduction of all participants
    How to observe mediation
    Fish bowl role play showing first steps and basic skills
Afternoon   Children: legal custody, parenting arrangements and how child development affects the process
    Mediation skills exercise
    Small group role plays to practice first steps and basic skills
    Quick full group review
Day Two
Morning   Psychological stages of divorce
    Mediation skills exercises, especially listening
    Fish bowl role play
Afternoon   Budgets and child support
    Mediation steps
    Small group role plays to practice skills and the next steps
Day Three
Morning   The marital home
    Mediation skills exercises
    Fish bowl role play
Afternoon   Property division
    The next mediation steps
    Caucusing
    Small group role plays to practice the steps and skills learned so far
    Full group review of the small groups
    Summary of the first three days
 
Five or Ten Days Off

Morning   Review of your mediation actions and thoughts during the break
    Working with attorneys
    The final product of mediation: memoranda and agreements
    Mediation skills exercises

Afternoon   Domestic violence; the cycle of violence
    Alimony

    Family systems and their effect on mediation
